VIRGINIA CAVALIERS // MARCH MADNESS 2012 // NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAM REPORT

VIRGINIA CAVALIERS // MARCH MADNESS 2012 // NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAM REPORT The Virginia Cavaliers made it to their first NCAA tournament in five years, but just barely. They limp in with seven scholarship players, having lost three of four, and with second-leading scorer Joe Harris bothered by a fractured non-shooting hand that's caused him to shoot 30 percent (15 of 50) over the last seven games. They'll slow the pace and play every possession through senior forward Mike Scott (18.1 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 56.2 percent shooting). The ACC Player of the Year runner-up, Scott has a powerful inside game, a smooth touch out to 18 feet, and a sweet stroke from the foul line (81 percent). Scott needs help, however, which makes senior guard Sammy Zeglinski (198 career 3-pointers) the x-factor. UVa went 0-5 against the ACC's top three teams. The Cavs punched their ticket thanks to early-season wins over Michigan and Oregon, plus a 9-7 conference mark. Like his father Dick Bennett's Wisconsin tea! ms, Tony Bennett's squad plays the famed "Pack-Line" defense to great effect, leading the nation in defensive efficiency. Undermanned due to injuries and suspension, Virginia still could make life miserable for an up-tempo team.
